Hi, I’m Austin
Hi, I’m Austin — a writer based in San Diego, recently reminded how much I love the thrill of a live audience and the challenge of a blank page. My short play My Favorite Ant Hill was awarded the Bradford Gromelski Prize and will be performed at FUSION’s 2025 “The Seven” festival in Albuquerque.
Before taking a creative break, I was lucky enough to have several of my plays produced and honored across the country — including winning Theatre Oxford’s National 10-Minute Play Contest (twice!), the Heartland Theatre Festival, Minnesota Shorts, and more. In 2024, I jumped back in and won the ShowOff! International Playwriting Festival, and I’ve been writing ever since.
My work leans into humor, honesty, and unexpected turns — whether it’s sperm soldiers gearing up for the great race (One Shot) or Romeo and Juliet suing each other for wrongfulldeath in afterlife court (The Dead People’s Court). I’m here to tell stories that make people laugh, think, and feel something that lingers.
I also collaborate with The Scripteasers in San Diego, where I work with other writers to shape and sharpen new plays. When I’m not writing, I’m coaching, editing, or helping others find the heart of their own stories.
“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”
— Samuel Beckett
